What happens if I miss a class?

Students must not miss the first day of class. All other classes that are missed must be made up in the following class. For example, if a student misses Day 3 during a June class they will need to make it with the instructor. You are required to be in class for 27 hours. If you don't meet the State requirement you will not be eligible to pass the class.

Does the class have to be completed to start behind-the-wheel?

No, but you have to have a permit and have paid before you schedule any drive times.

Why take driver ed so soon?

It is a good idea to take driver education early so you have the knowledge to practice effectively with your parents (i.e., right of way laws, maneuvers, proper driving techniques), develop good habits, and correct unsafe practices before taking the road test.

Do I need a permit to start classes?

No, you do NOT need a permit to start the in-person or online class. However, you need a permit before you can start or register for behind-the-wheel lessons.  Learn more about permits.

What is your refund policy?

There are no refunds.

Do you charge late, cancellation, or no-show fees?

You must login to our website to cancel or reschedule at least 36 hours in advance to avoid a fee. There is a $30 fee for any cancelations that occur less than 36 hours before a lesson. The fee must be paid before any remaining behind-the-wheel lessons can be scheduled.

Are your instructors licensed?

All of our instructors are licensed by the state.

What will I have to complete before I can get my license?
  • You must obtain a learner's permit from the Driver License Division. This is accomplished by passing the written test.

  • You must take and pass driver education. Attendance of 27 hours must be completed before you are eligible to obtain a license.

  • Complete all instructional drives, including Street Smarts, and simulator: (Scheduled with Lincoln instructors)

  • Pass a road test

  • Be 16 yrs of age

How long does it take to complete driver ed?

Typically, it takes three months to complete our driver education program. The online class takes 30 hours to complete at your own pace. Our summer in-person class takes 10 weekdays with 3-hour classes.

What will I learn during my behind-the-wheel lessons?

During behind-the-wheel lessons, students learn how to operate a vehicle. They learn maneuvers used to change direction, park, change lanes, speed limits for residential and business areas, right of way rules for different types of intersections, merging, stopping and starting, line of sight, the habit of signaling, checking mirrors and blind spots before changing position on the road, what bad habits not to do, and much more.

Will I have the same instructor for every lesson?

Yes, you will have the same driving instructor for each drive, with the exception of the road test.

Can I request a specific driving instructor?

No, students will be assigned a driving instructor.

Do I need a learner's permit to schedule behind-the-wheel lessons?

Yes, you need a permit before you can register for behind-the-wheel lessons. Learn more.

How do I schedule a behind-the-wheel lesson?

Login to your account on our website to schedule your driving lessons.

Can I use my own car?

You may not use your own car. You will use a vehicle designated for behind-the-wheel lessons. This vehicle is insured by Lincoln Academy.

Do I need to have my own car insurance for behind-the-wheel?

You do not have to have your own insurance to drive our training vehicles. You are covered by the school insurance policy as long as you are registered for drivers ed.

Will other students be in the car with me?

Yes, other students will be in the car during your scheduled drive time for obersvation. There could be 2-3 additional students in the car.

Do you offer home pick-up and drop-off?

We do not offer home pick-up or drop-off. Lessons start and end at Lincoln Academy only.

Do your cars have special safety equipment?

Each training car is issued a passenger side brake, basic first aid kit, fire extinguisher, a tool to break the side window and cut the seat belt, and a flashlight.
